The painting depicts The Kungkarrangkalpa (The Seven Sisters) and the old magician (Yula) who was chasing them across the country. Yula travelled through the desert during winter and summer, trying to trick the sisters with his spells until finally, the sisters ascended into the sky and all became stars. That is why, in the night sky, we can see the seven sisters (the Pleiades) followed by Yula (Orion)
